- 歧义，是语言的一个重要特征，它涉及到一个语言单位有二个或更多的意思。不管什么时候什么地方发生歧义现象，都直接导致表达与演说的曲解，给交流带来不便。所以我们应该对其特征如定义、功能、分类加以研究，以避免歧义的产生。本文在介绍英语歧义的三种类型，即语音歧义、词汇歧义、结构歧义的基础上，了解这些歧义给人们交流中的理解中带来的麻烦，分析怎样识别与避免歧义，这就成为语言学习者与使用者的重大问题。The ambiguity is an important feature of language. It refers that the language unit has two or more meanings. The phenomenon of ambiguity, whenever and wherever it occurs, may directly lead to the contamination of expression and comprehension of discourse. So we should study the definition, function, classification and how to avoid the misunderstandings.
This thesis is intended to present an analysis of the three types of ambiguity in English, i.e. phonetic, lexical and structural ambiguities which exert great influence on the understanding in communications. The recognition and the removal of them, therefore, are of great necessity for both learners and users of language.
