Cultivation of Klebsiella sp. for the production of 1,3-propanediol from Glycerol.ppt
- In the biodiesel production process, glycerol is produced as a byproduct. With the increasing demand of biodiesel, the byproduct glycerol generation will be increased as a consequence. In order to enhance the value of glycerol, value-added products derived from glycerol should be explored. In this study, Klebsiella sp. is used to convert glycerol into 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO), a valuable monomer used to produce polymer –polytrimethylene terphthalate (PTT). The favorable incubating condition of Klebsiella sp. for 1,3-PDO production is as found to be at 30oC and shaking speed of 200 rpm. Also glycerol used in strain preservation medium was essential for 1,3-PDO production. In addition, 1,3-propanediol was found to be a growth-associated product and the yield of 0.58 (1,3-PDO/glycerol) was achived.
