- In this paper we study Gaussian Mersenne primes in the form x^2 +dy^2 , for some square-free integer d>0 . Gaussian Mersenne primes are given by GMp=2^p −(2/p)2^((p+1)/2)+1 , where (2/p) is the Legendre symbol 2modp .
We show that, these primes can be represented in the form x 2 +dy 2 , for d≡1,2,3,4,5,6,7mod8 . Computational results are given in support of these arguments. We find the Hilbert class field of $\Q(\sqrt{-d})$ and the ring class field of the order Z[√{-d}] of Q(√{-d}) to represent the Gaussian Mersenne primes in the form x^2 +dy^2 . We prove several results along with the main theorem that, for p≡±1(mod8) we have GM p =x^2 +7y^2 with x≡±1(mod8) and y≡0(mod8) , by constructing the cyclic extension of Q(√{-14}) and using Artin´s reciprocity law.
