文档简介:Retaining the inherent hydrophilic character of GO(graphite-oxide) nanosheets, sp2 domains on GOare covalentlymodifiedwith thiol groups by diazonium chemistry. The surface modified GOadsorbs 6-fold higher concentration of aqueous mercuric ions than theunmodified GO. “Coreshell” adsorbent granules, readily useable infiltration columns, are synthesized by assembling aqueous GO over sandgranules. The nanostructured GO-coated sand retains at least 5-foldhigher concentration of heavy metal and organic dye than pure sand. Theresearch results could open avenues for developing low-cost waterpurification materials for the developing economies.
